Had the characters had more substance to them, this would have been an even better read.

Maddie herself was a very flat character who I really couldn’t see myself rooting for long term. Although I understood why there had to be so many minor characters. There were a lot of characters in the story, Maddie’s family, that I just didn’t feel anything for. The story had a very B-Horror movie vibe too it which would have been made even better had I really felt connected to the characters. I loved that the campfire stories that were told had their own chapters. The story started out a little slow but picked up mid way through. The story follows Maddie Davenport and her big family and Caleb, the swoon worth mountain guide, on a family camping trip to celebrate Maddie’s older brother Charlie graduating high school. While this wasn’t my favorite book ever it also wasn’t my least favorite either. I was super excited when I saw this title making its way around bookstagram and knew I had to give it a shot. I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Because there were other, more horrifying stories told that night - and Maddie’s about to find out just how they end. Now Maddie and her family are lost in the deep woods - with no way out - being stalked by their worst nightmares. Caleb, the handsome young guide, shares the local legend of the ferocious Mountain Men who hunt unsuspecting campers and leave their mark by carving grisly antlers into their victims’ foreheads. While camping in a remote location, Maddie Davenport gathers around the fire with her friends and family to tell scary stories. Novel:įans of Scream and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will devour this “wholly chilling and unputdownable” horror debut (Kerri Maniscalco, New York Times bestselling author).īe careful what stories you tell around the campfire.
